KITAP Bali: Complete Guide to Indonesia Permanent Stay Permit 2026

KITAP Bali: Complete Guide to Indonesia Permanent Stay Permit 2026

KITAP (Kartu Izin Tinggal Tetap) — also referred to as ITAP — is the ultimate residency permit for long-term foreigners in Indonesia. Unlike the annually or biannually renewed KITAS, a KITAP is valid for 5 years and positions holders as permanent legal residents. This guide explains who qualifies, how to apply, and what KITAP means for your long-term life in Bali.

What Is KITAP?

KITAP stands for Kartu Izin Tinggal Tetap — Permanent Stay Permit Card. It is the highest residency status available to foreign nationals in Indonesia, short of naturalisation. Holders have the right to reside in Indonesia indefinitely (subject to 5-year renewals), without needing to maintain a corporate sponsor or renew annually as with KITAS.

KITAP Eligibility by Previous Permit Type

  • Spouse KITAS: Eligible after 2 consecutive years on a Spouse KITAS (ITAS Kawin Campur). This is the fastest pathway to KITAP.
  • Work KITAS: Eligible after 5 continuous years of Work KITAS (ITAS Kerja) at the same employer or category.
  • Investor KITAS: Eligible after 5 continuous years of ITAS Investor.
  • Retirement KITAS: Eligible after 5 continuous years of ITAS Pensiun.

KITAP Application Requirements

  • All original KITAS cards covering the qualifying period
  • Passport with full validity during the qualifying period (stamp history)
  • SKTT/SKPD stamps proving continuous registered residence
  • Character reference from local RT/RW (neighbourhood leader)
  • Tax registration (NPWP) where applicable
  • Sponsor declaration or proof of self-sufficiency (varies by prior category)
  • Health insurance valid in Indonesia

KITAP Application Process

Applications are submitted to Imigrasi Denpasar (for Bali residents) and reviewed at the Directorate General of Immigration (Ditjen Imigrasi) level in Jakarta. This makes KITAP a more complex application than a KITAS renewal. Typical processing time: 2–4 months. We guide you from initial document checklist through final card collection.

Life with KITAP

KITAP holders can open bank accounts, register a local driving licence, sign long-term property leases, and engage in activities permitted under their prior KITAS category (e.g., Investor KITAP holders retain business rights). The KITAP must be renewed every 5 years, but the residency right is continuous as long as you remain legally present and compliant.

If you are approaching your KITAS eligibility threshold, contact us early. Document preparation for KITAP is the most important step — missing SKTT stamps or gaps in permit history can invalidate your application.
